WOKHA — The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) Wokha unit observed its raising day and annual picnic by conducting a cleanup drive at Doyang on November 17 and 18.

Hosted at My Resort in Tzuza Eru, Pangti, the event was organised by the Sungro Range Taxi Owners and Drivers. Over 130 members of the unit joined hands to rid the riverside of plastic, rubber, and other discarded materials.

ANTA Wokha unit President T Renbemo Kikon explained that the initiative was born out of necessity. “We observed huge amounts of waste accumulating at Doyang. Instead of limiting Raising Day to merriment, we felt compelled to act,” he said.

He added that the campaign was only the beginning of a broader effort to instil sustainable practices across taxi counters, villages, and the wider community.

General Secretary Lipenthung Ovung stressed that the responsibility of keeping Doyang clean must be shared across districts. He acknowledged resort owners and villagers for placing waste bins and urged visitors to use them responsibly.

Ovung further appealed to the government to introduce long-term waste management and recycling strategies. “If the taxi association can collect this much waste in two days, the authorities can certainly do more,” he remarked.

The raising day also featured cultural and recreational highlights, including tug-of-war, live music, and a lucky draw.
