Dimapur, Nov. 29 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) on Tuesday reiterated its stand to not allow the service continuation of contractual teachers from the next academic session unless on exigency, in line with the University Grants Commission guidelines.

A statement addressed to the minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs said that the matter of contractual teachers under Higher Education “has remained unresolved for more than a decade”.

It said the union had written to the concerned minister on several occasions to conclude the matter, the most recent being the representation submitted on October 3.

The union also reminded the minister’s statement made on the floor of 12th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, wherein he said: “154 contractual assistant professor posts are in the process of regularisation” and “the file is being compiled and it is now in process to see what best can be done for these contractual teachers at the earliest”.

‘The union therefore demands to know the merit of these statements being made on the floor of the house on September 20, 2022?’, it read.

The union warned to launch democratic agitation anytime if the matter is not immediately concluded, adding that the department would be held responsible for “any resulting catastrophe”.
