KOHIMA — The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has reaffirmed that the list of candidates declared elected for the 2025–27 tenure remains valid, following an ‘extraordinary’ union assembly held at the ANCSU office on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, ANCSU tribunal secretary Vimeyiekho Vitso, along with tribunal members Toito Chishi and Imnameren Jamir, said the assembly was convened following allegations raised by some students and colleges against certain elected candidates.
Vitso said differences had emerged during the ANCSU general conference, where the elections for the 2025–27 officials were conducted. In response to the complaints, the tribunal exercised its constitutional mandate to review the matter.
He informed that after a “marathon deliberation,” the assembly reached a consensus to uphold the election commission’s earlier declaration of results, finding the elected candidates qualified as per the union’s code of conduct. Of the 39 colleges affiliated to ANCSU, 34 participated in the assembly and endorsed the decision, he added.
Clarifying one of the key allegations, Vitso said the issue concerned a candidate who had graduated shortly before the election. While the constitution requires that ANCSU members be regular students, it also allows those who have already served a tenure to continue for one term even after graduation.

He acknowledged the need to review and amend the constitution in light of the current semester system to ensure fair opportunities for all college students.
Vitso added that while some misunderstandings may persist, the tribunal believed the decision was taken in the best interest of the union.
