Expressing serious concern over the state government’s indifferent attitude over the non-fulfillment of the demands of colleges’ teachers after having various rounds of talks and repeated calls, members of the All Manipur College Teachers’ Association (AMCTA) today staged a sit-in protest at the community hall of Singjamei Chingamakha Oinam Leikai located opposition to Manipur College complex, Imphal.
During the sit-in protest, the association president has also bwarned to launch cease-work strike from February 18 if the state government fails to meet their demands and further ask to remove the existing commissioner of higher education P Vaiphei from the higher education department.The association also accused that the existing Commissioner of the higher education has failed to uplift the higher education in the state.His nature of conduct has even degraded the status of higher education system in the state, they alleged.
The demands put by the association includes immediate release of pending due allowances that is career advancement schemes, travelling allowances etc entitled to the college teachers and equivalent cadres by making correction of Revision of Pay orders of August 12,2011 as top priority. Other demands include immediate release of fresh notification/ OM considering local condition in respect of recruitment and appointment of regular principals to all the government colleges of Manipur.
The protesters also added that they have met and submitted memorandas to the state Chief minister O Ibobi and Education minister M Okendra on November 18,2014 wherein the authorities had made verbal assurances to address the issues.
