Dimapur, Jan. 16: As is the case in the present tenure, the power struggle within the recently 'reconciled' ruling Nagaland People's Front (NPF) party is yet from over even as signs of rumblings continue to surface.
With the impending elections, the tussle is yet to come out in the open like before even though it persists. Along with some of the unexpected resolutions made during the meeting of the party's central office bearers on Jan. 15, the tussle seems to be continuing with move to avail the party's tickets for the loyalists of the respective power centres.
This probably led to the constitution and reconstitution of the Working Committee of the party twice within a period of two weeks. Besides other functions, the most important role of the Working Committee of the NPF is to function as the Election Committee with powers to decide the party's candidates during elections.
The first list of the Working Committee was finalised on Dec. 29, 2017 and it was signed by the Secretary General and the President of the party. It was also published in some of the local newspapers.
In that list, 18 names along with the presidents and representatives of the party’s frontal organisations constituted the Working Committee. On the latest list of the Working Committee finalised on Jan. 12, the list had changed to 27 members and it was it was signed only by the President of the party.
In the latest list of the Working Committee the representatives and the presidents of the party's frontal organisations were not included.
