Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): Netflix just dropped a trailer on Thursday, Oct. 29, for their upcoming new live-action original series ‘Alice in Borderland’.

Based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Haro Aso, the series revolves around Ryōhei Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and his pals Daikichi (Keita Machida) and Chōta (Yûki Morinaga), who suddenly find themselves in a post-apocalyptic parallel world known as Borderland, following a mysterious power outage.

In the trailer, we can see that the world around them seems to have stopped, all the inhabitants of the city apart from a select few have disappeared, and the three high-school friends are forced to play a series of dangerous games in order to survive.

None of them understands what is happening and the trio runs towards a store that seems to still have power. Instead of answers, they find a set of cell phones inside the store and are met by a strange woman called Saori (played by Ayame Misaki).

Ryōhei, Daikichi, Chōta, and Saori soon learn that the only way to survive is to keep listening carefully to their phones as they are forced to participate in a series of strange games overseen by a mysterious game master. The games seem to involve fire, a killer tiger, deck of cards, a room overflowing with water, exploding buildings, insane gun-fire and an amusement park. Oh, there is also an interesting fight scene between a katana-wielding bald madman and a chick clad in a bikini (Bikini-Fu anyone?). Nonetheless, Ryōhei Arisu is determined to outwit the mysterious game master and unravel the strange and deadly world of Borderland.

The series is directed by Shinsuke Sato, who has helmed other live-adaptation films such as 2018’s Bleach and 2015’s I Am A Hero. Alice in Borderland hits Netflix on December 10.
