MOKOKCHUNG — Alemtuba Imsong, a 34-year-old resident of Mokokchung, has announced his intention to contest the upcoming Mokokchung Municipal Council election. Imsong, who aims to represent Sangtemla Ward, made his declaration during a press conference held at the Whispering Winds Hotel in Mokokchung on Tuesday.

In his address, Imsong said that Sangtemla Ward is one of the largest wards in Mokokchung, strategically positioned within the town’s economic centre. The ward has an approximate population of 2674, of which 1556 are youths, representing 58.18% of the ward’s population, he said, adding that a significant number of youths in the ward are unemployed.

With a central focus on youth-centric initiatives and a holistic approach to societal development, the intending candidate expressed his confidence in securing the support of the youth demographic.

He went on to say that his campaign slogan, “New Voice, Stronger Future,” reflects his commitment to empowering the younger generation.

To address the specific needs of the youth, Imsong and his team have formulated comprehensive demographic target agendas designed to provide pragmatic solutions to the challenges faced by young people.

He outlined his top priorities, including career counselling, sports, scholarships for merit and theological fields for those under 18 years of age; skill development and promotion of Self Help Groups (SHGs) for educated unemployed youth; micro-financing for aspiring entrepreneurs requiring funding; and comprehensive waste management solutions.

“I firmly believed that by investing in education, skill development and overall well-being, we can equip the youths to surmount any challenges to realise their full potential,” he said.

Imsong said he envisions a new Mokokchung, characterised by inclusive representation from all sectors of society, a stable township environment that welcomes innovative practices and forward-thinking approaches for all-round development.

Responding to a question regarding his political affiliation, Imsong confirmed his active membership in the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). He expressed his hope that the party would grant him the ticket to contest the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections in June.

Imsong also pledged to be a champion for the youth and appealed to the electorate of Sangtemla Ward to provide him with the opportunity to represent them as Municipal Councillor.
