MOKOKCHUNG — Former chief secretary of Nagaland, Alemtemshi Jamir, on Thursday stressed on the need to adapt and co-exist with the evolving dynamics in order to reform and restructure the Ao community.

Jamir stated this during the 44th general conference of the Ao Senden held at Mokokchung town hall. Observing that the Aos have inherited creativity, progressive, liberal, generous, tolerance, democratic and legal mindset from their forefathers, Jamir stated that they cannot escape from the ever evolving technologies and the new thinking of the new world order.

According to Jamir, the new world order or the new era is driven by the rapid advancements in technology and global trends such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics and quantum computing and drone warfare, which are reshaping various aspects of society. He also observed the shrinking role of the state and the increasing dominance of the private sector underscoring the paradigm shift in governance and economic activities.

In this connection, he questioned as to whether they are still going to live in villages in complete isolation, dwelling in the past or embrace changes aligning with the evolving dynamics, which is essential for the community’s progress and prosperity.

He asserted that the only answer for the new world order was to reform and restructure by extending beyond mere adaptation to technological changes encompassing a holistic transformation involving changes in mindset, governance and economic activities.

Jamir’s suggestions for reforming the agriculture, industrial and tourism sectors underscored the need for strategic planning and concerted efforts in key areas of development.

He proposed commercial-scale production in agriculture and the creation of market linkages reflecting a forward-thinking approach to enhance productivity and economic growth. He opined that the agriculture system should be reform by adopting “one village or district one product” and restructured it with trust, accountability and quality control for commercial production.

Additionally, he emphasised on creating conducive environment for investment and skill development in the industrial sector aligns with the goals of fostering economic diversification and employment generation.

“We need peace to bring investment from outside, share our land and build up skilled labour,” Jamir said.

Meanwhile, a new team of Ao Senden officer bearers for the tenure 2024-2026 was declared led by Marsanen Imsong as president, Aowati Ozukum as vice president, Imtipokyim as general secretary, Bendangnukshi as assistant general secretary, Yanger Pongen as finance secretary and Lanupokyim as treasurer.
