Dimapur, June 14 (EMN): Alemla Chang was conferred Governor Acharya’s Award for her contribution towards the community by providing free training on tailoring, embroidery, beads-making, stitching, weaving etc to help women in empowering themselves to be self-reliant.
The ceremonial programme of Governor-Acharya’s award for promotion of skill development among Chang women was observed by Changsao Thangjam Setshang (CTS) on June 13 at CTS hall, Tuensang.
A DIPR report stated that Alemla Chang has been giving free trainings since the year 2010 in different categories and preserving the traditional attires of the Chang community.
According to her, the motive behind it was to provide employment and contribute towards the society with greater returns.
The program was chaired by Chubala, former chairman of CTS, with Mohammed Ali Shihab, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC challenged the gathering to take the achievement of Alemla as a stepping stone towards attaining greater heights. He remarked that Alemla deserved the honour.
Present at the event were Nungsanglemba, president of Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Chingmak Chang, president of Chang Gazetted Officers’ Association (CGOA) and the women folk representing each Chang villages.
