Akum Ao is First Falcon Angling’s winner

Dimapur, Nov. 11 (EMN): As part of the Amur Falcon Conservation Week and festival, the first Falcon Angling Competition was organised by the District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN) on Nov. 9 at Tzüza Eryu, Doyang, at Pangti village in Wokha district. Updates informed on Sunday. The event was sponsored by the department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland. Besides local anglers from Wokha, Mokokchung, Dimapur, and Kohima, angling enthusiasts from Assam also participated in the competition. Akum Ao from Mokokchung district emerged as the winner of the competition and was awarded a cash prize of INR 30,000. He caught 1.42 Kg Mahseer which was released back as an effort to create awareness and save the endangered Mahseer. The second prize was bagged by Nyanthung Odyuo, third prize goes to Wapang, while fourth and fifth goes to Libemo Kithan and Chumbemo Ngullie respectively. Other awards included ‘first catch of the competition’ by Chumbemo Ngullie; ‘the most disciplined angler’ by Ponathung Tungoe; and ‘luckiest angler’ goes to Y Zubenthung Ovung. The prizes were given away by the special invitee of the day, Lotimenba, joint director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources. He also spoke on the huge potential of Doyang reservoir and the department efforts to conserve and utilise for the benefits of the people. President of Anglers Association Nagaland, Phukato Sumi urged the local people to cooperate, conserve, and popularise the Tzüza angling zone in order to harvest various economic benefits in near future.
