A three-day 43rd general conference of the Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang (AKTM) held at Mopungchuket village culminated on January 12 with the participation of over 400 delegates from six units.

The second day of the conference was focus on “Lipok Penzu Ango (Discovering the foundation of culture),” which witnessed cultural presentations by various units dubbed as “Sobiliba Yimdongmak.”

Speaking on the occasion, Guru S Pangyang Ozukum, president of Asetkong Senden, explained the term “Lipok” meaning “soil origin” and “lisang” meaning “civilisation.” He called upon the gathering to conserve the culture and traditions of their forefathers particularly in promoting one’s mother tongue.

Also speaking on the occasion, Nungdokyanger Ao, president of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM), has emphasised on conserving cultural and moral values, which according to him, are diminishing at a fast pace.

He also emphasised on the urgent need for the student community to documentation the rich tradition and cultural heritage stating that it encompasses the philosophy and way of life.

He further urged the students to be smart and innovative and find professionalism befitting their personalities. He further called upon the people to elect the right leaders in order to take the society forward.

The day began with a variety of cultural road shows from all of the units such as indigenous folk songs, pulling of a traditional log drum, folk dance and other indigenous games.

Some notable traditional presentations included Jang Sepa Litet (winnowing of grains) by women grouip, Shizüng Tsüktep (beachcomber seeds ticking competition by women group, Sü-araba (loinloom craft) by women group, Rongnü Asukba (bamboo slicing craft) by men group, Kara Tsüng Asemtep (bamboo walk) by men group, Nü-tsütep (spear throw) by men group and Arr Atütepba (traditional tug-of-war) by both men and women groups.

The inaugural programme was attended by Lobosang Jamir, superintending engineer, department of Power, and Rev. Dr. Mar Pongen, executive secretary of ABAM Impur, as the main speakers.

Meanwhile, a new team of AKTM office bearers for tenure 2023-2026 was also elected led by Kajenkaba Aier as president and Aotsunger as general secretary.
