Dimapur, July 25 (EMN): Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) has appreciated the citizens and ward leaders under Kohima municipality for displaying discipline in observing the total lockdown  uniformly throughout the 19 wards. The seven-day total lockdown in Kohima began on Saturday.

The organisation has attributed the success of a 'total lockdown' on day-1 to ‘oneness of purpose and action of the entire populace.’ It expressed optimism that the spread of the virus outside quarantine centres would be stopped and those already infected would be detected and treated and enable the communities safer.

AKMWP, in a press statement said that its officials undertook a visit and interacted with ward leaders and volunteers from 8 am onwards. It stated that ward leaders have appreciated the efforts and expressed commitment to ensure success of the total lockdown. AKMWP also appreciated all the wards for the sacrifices in shouldering the responsibilities even to the extent of endangering themselves to ensure that others around them might live in safety.

AKMWP has also reminded the wards on the need to strictly adhere the directives/guidelines of the governmental authorities and to ensure that no complaint arises in its endeavour towards genuine/valid cause.

The officials met the leaders from Ward 19 and constituent colonies; Ward 10 Officers Hill and Hospital Colony; Ward No. 1 Peracizie High School; Ward No. 5 Kitsubuzou, D Block, Midlane, Merhulietsa, Lower Agri; Ward 17, New Ministers Hill, Lerie Middle Sector, Porterlane, Upper Chandmari and PWD. It added that those wards that could not be reached on day-1 would be covered in the next round.

AKMWP also reported that day-1 of the total lockdown passed off peacefully without reports of any incidents. In this regard, it has acknowledged the ward leaders, volunteers and district authorities.

AKMWP has further sought the continued support and co-operation of the citizens towards the government and its agencies to curb the Covid-19 cases at the earliest.
