Mokokchung, June 4 (EMN):
Irked by the lackadaisical attitude of the telecom service providers in improving the networks despite repeated intimation and warnings, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) shut down the offices of TM Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Jio Point in Mokokchung on July 4.

AKM officials informed this newspaper that the office of the two telecom providers had to be shut down because they failed to comply with the AKM’s demand to improve the networks. The officials informed that the two offices would remain closed until they furnished a formal letter to the AKM with proof of network improvement.

Supplementing the action, the officials said that on May 6, they had served a letter each to SDE BSNL, Jio Point Mokokchung, TM Vodafone Idea Ltd., and GM Airtel to restore internet services. In the letter, AKM had asked the telecom service providers to restore proper internet services in and around Mokokchung as the internet connectivity was deteriorating when it is needed the most during this pandemic.

The officials stated that thousands of students are frustrated because they cannot complete their online classes while personal online/digital financial transaction for business are also hampered because of poor internet connectivity.

Subsequently, AKM had, on June 24, dispatched a letter again to all the telecom service providers in Mokokchung with a request to restore all the necessary network services within seven days, failing which it warned to take stern action against the defaulters.

The officials disclosed that BSNL and GM Airtel improved their services and intimated of the issue to the AKM office, while offices of TM Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Jio Point failed to comply with the request, for which there was no option left but to down the shutter, the officials added.
