AKM not pleased with Mokokchung-Mariani road repair works

Mokokchung, Feb. 8 (EMN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed dissatisfaction at the ongoing road ‘improvement of riding quality to NH 702D,’ or, popularly the Mokokchung-Mariani road.
Leaders of the AKM along with executive members undertook an on-spot inspection of the ongoing ‘improvement of riding quality’ works at NH 702D on Feb. 6 and expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of work being undertaken at the stretch between 50km and 60 km, which starts from Tzurang bridge.
“The work progress is slow and poor workmanship was observed from 50 km to 63 km stretch,” an AKM official said during a press briefing at the president’s chamber.
In this connection, the AKM has appealed that the contractor in concern expedite the work and to carry out repairs again on roads that were not up to the prescribed standard.
The AKM warned that as the main connectivity for Mokokchung and other neighbouring districts with Assam, the students’ body would be closely monitoring the project. If the work is not up to the specification as had been stipulated in the work order, the AKM will initiate an own course of action in the interest of the public, AKM officials warned.
Officials from the Mokokchung division PWD (NH) has informed that blacktopping from Sewak gate to Indian Oil (fuel pump) has been completed. It is approximately 3 km and currently they have covered around 6 km starting from Tsumashiong during the AKM inspecting it on Feb. 06.
They added that soling works were still in progress from Changki village. Officials said improvement work on the entire stretch of the road is being expected to be completed by April. To allow renovation work to take place smoothly, the AKM has urged commuters to cooperate and bear with the inconvenience caused by the long haul because of the construction.
It is to be mentioned that “NH 702D improvement of riding quality project” was started during the previous year and covered approximately 55 km. According to the contract: M/S North East Enterprise has been allotted 0-10 km and 10-25 km with a contract price of INR 3,72,87,667.64 and INR 3,84,98,376.56 respectively; M/S Vertex Construction from 30-50 km with a contract price of INR 6,47,49,699.41; and M/S Z Rulho from 50 to 60 km with a contract price of INR 4,54,68,938.06.
