[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) – apex students’ organization of the Ao community – paid a surprise visit to inspect the ongoing road construction at National Highway 2 starting from Alichen to DEF Mokokchung on Friday.
The road is being repaired by M/s Vertex Construction, and the stretch of the highway is approximately twenty-one kilometers. After the inspection, the AKM officials expressed deep dissatisfaction at the poor workmanship of the ongoing road repairing.AKM president, Jemti Longchar and general secretary Bendangkumba Aier, in a press briefing, strongly asserted that the AKM is not satisfied with the quality of work being undertaken at the National Highway, which is the main lifeline for the people of Mokokchung and the neighboring districts.
They also disclosed that the “machinery being used were not used in some areas”. They also asserted that the black-topping was not up to the standards.
In this regard, the AKM officials strongly cautioned that the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang will not be a silent spectator and warned that the AKM will initiate its own course of action, in public interest, ‘if the ongoing work is not done according to the work order’.
The AKM also urged the concerned department to monitor the ongoing construction of the road since this is the only lifeline for the people of Mokokchung as well as the neighboring districts to communicate with other places. Further, the AKM also appealed the general public to support the ongoing road repairing work and extend all help so that this important highway, which is one of the most important roads in Mokokchung town, can be beneficial to the people of the state.
