Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has strongly condemned the ‘senseless assault’ on their former president and the present AKM tribunal general, L Jemti Longchar by one H Zunpenthung Kikon, son of Hayio Kikon of Longsachung village, a resident of Teheryiro colony, Wokha town, on August 25, a few km away from Longsa Village without any rhyme or reason.
In a press statement, AKM president, Lmkongwati and assistant general secretary, Lolentoshi, stated that Longchar was returning from Kohima on that fateful day when he saw his friend, former AKM vice president, who was also going to Kohima involved in a car accident with another vehicle. As a responsible citizen and a students’ leader, the former president stopped and tried to help sort out the situation, the release added.
As the case was in the process of being settled in the spirit of understanding between the two parties after some negotiation, the local, Kikon, who was not involved in the accident in any manner, assaulted Longchar without any reason, the AKM stated.
“The AKM understands that accidents do happen in our daily lives. It happens to everyone; however, in such a situation, as civilized citizens, we should endeavour to solve the matter in a sensible manner without having to resort to violence,” the release added.
Stating that on that fateful day, Kikon and Longchar were not directly involved in the accident and that the former AKM president was there by providence and was only trying to help out, The AKM stated that the action of Kikon towards Longchar is totally uncalled for, barbaric, highly questionable, and needs to be condemned by every right thinking citizens of the society.
