Akhoya Baptist Church celebrated its quasqui centenary on 28-29th 2013 at Akhoya village under the theme “Declare the Lord’s marvelous work”. Speaking on the theme, executive secretary of the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM), Rev Dr Mar Atsongchanger urged the congregation to reachout the unreached people with the good news that we recieved 125 years ago.
“The significants of the jubilee celebration is not only a matter of forgiving amongst the people or getting maturity in age, but spread the good news to the people who have not heard about it, as we are called for that mission,” Rev Mar Atsongchanger reminded the believers.
“The gospel that we received is not only for ourselves, but we are being made responsible to share the gospel with others, as we are chosen to do His marvelous works and you have potential to do that,” Rev Mar Atsongchanger challenged the Christians in Akhoya.
During the opening service of the quasqui centenary celebration, Rev.Subo spoke about the God’s marvelous works upon His people in Akhoya and the Principal of the Servanthood Bible College, Tsüknungsangba delivered the closing sermon.
Among the prominent invitees, Victor Carpenter, the grandson of the first school teacher and pastor of Akhoya Baptist church in 1888-1890, Benjamin Symon and his wife Bina Carpenter were attending the celebration.
Presently, Victor Carpenter is an Assam Civil Service officer and working as joint secretary and the director, Inland Water Transport of Assam. They are actively working in mission works in Assam.
Other highlights of the program were special number presented by Jubilee choir and the Fellowship choir from Changtongya town, Mokokchung and Dimapur.
Word of Exhortations and greetings were brought from the churches founded by the Akhoya church and the leaders amongst the Akhoyans.
