Aizawl, May 6 (PTI): Mizoram’s capital Aizawl on Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 36.7 degree Celsius, the hottest day in the last 20 years, officials said.

For Aizawlites, who live at the top of a hill, 1,132 metres from sea level, any temperature above 32 degree Celsius is always warm.

The minimum temperature Monday was 17.6 degree Celsius, they said.

The maximum temperature on Sunday was 33.4 degree Celsius while the minimum was 17.5, the officials said, adding that on Saturday the maximum was 33 and minimum was 18.2 degree Celsius.

Monday was the hottest day ever in the history of Aizawl since 1999 when temperature recording began in the capital city, the officials said.

Meanwhile, the cyclone Fani, which hit the state on Friday evening and Saturday resulted in some trees being uprooted and many districts including southern Mizoram’s Lunglei and Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border Mamit district being powerless for days, they said.

Telecommunication was also disrupted in many places across the state.
