AICC minority wing appoints observer for Manipur elections
Dimapur, Feb. 6 : The Minority Department of All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Rejaul Karim Laskar as its observer for the Manipur Assembly elections to be held in 4th and 8th March, 2017.
As the observer, he has been entrusted to coordinate the election campaign of the Congress Party’s Minority Department at all levels in all the 60 Assembly constituencies of Manipur, a press release from the AICC stated on Monday. Laskar is former spokesperson of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
“After being appointed as the Observer, Mr. Laskar has thanked Hon’ble Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi, Hon’ble Congress Vice President Shri Rahul Gandhi and Hon’ble Chairman of AICC Minority Department Shri Khurshid Ahmed Saiyed and said that he will work hard to help the Congress party win the assembly elections in Manipur,” the press release stated.
Laskar will shortly leave for Manipur and will coordinate the campaign of the minority department of the Congress Party in the entire state of Manipur, till the election campaign ends there, the unit informed.
“This mission assumes significance in the backdrop of the fact that around half of the population of Manipur belongs to Minority Communities as notified by the Government of India under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, namely Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains and Parsis,” the AICC remarked.
