Dimapur, Feb. 5 (EMN): A training programme in ‘handicraft skill’ development commenced at Ahthibung in Peren district on February 5. During the event, youths will learn how to make handicrafts from wood, a press release from Henpu Handicraft Centre in Ahthibung on Tuesday stated.
Ahthibung is a remote area in Nagaland state and is always in need of more job opportunities for the youths of the region, the press release stated. “In lack of bare minimum education qualification youths are having very limited options to earn sustainable livelihood,” the press release stated.
Understanding this need, a local organisation called the Ahthibung Region Club in collaboration with the Assam Rifles and Henpu Handicraft Centre has taken the initiative to train the villagers of the area in “handicraft skills so that after basic training these villagers can start their own looms or workshops to run their families,” the press release stated.
‘This 40 days of training will be held at Henpu’s Handicraft Centre where Mr. Henpu, the owner of the centre, will give them wood crafting training. From 05 Feb to 16 March, the trainees will stay at Henpu’s Handicraft Centre,’ the press release informed.
