Agro-based Rural Technology and Incubation Centre inaugurated

Dimapur, Aug. 18 (EMN): The Agro-based Rural Technology and Incubation Centre at Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur was inaugurated on August 17 by Kekhrievor Kevichusa (IPoS) Commissioner and Secretary, Industries and Commerce, in the presence of K Hokishe Assumi, Director of Industries and Commerce, and Tali Longchar, Director (I/C), MSME-DI, Dimapur.

An update from NTTC Dimapur informed that Agro-based Rural Technology and Incubation Centre, which is funded by the ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, started on February 7 2019 and was completed within 18 months.

 “The main objective of the scheme is to generate employment opportunities through setting up of new self-employment ventures by bringing together the widely dispersed traditional artisans and unemployed youth. It also aims to provide continuous and sustainable employment to traditional and prospective artisans and rural/urban unemployed youths so as to arrest migration of rural youths to urban areas,” the update informed.

It added that under this project, the NTTC has conducted various types of training programmes on the agro-based rural technologies developed at the centre and for exposure and to gain more  knowledge, a group of trainers and artisans were also sent to Tamil Nadu for training on banana fibre extraction and handicraft making.

The centre also participated in various exhibitions and trade fair where the products manufactured at NTTC were displayed, demonstrated and received positive feedback from the participants. Presently, the centre is getting various queries and demands for the purchase of the products, the update added.

There are currently 22 agro-based rural technologies developed under this scheme, including bamboo shoot slicer, vegetable crusher-cum-slicer, smokefree meatdryer, corn sheller, andothers, informed the update.

It may be mentioned that the Industries and Commerce department, government of Nagaland, set up NTTC in collaboration with the ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in the 2006 with an objective to develop skilled manpower for employment and entrepreneurship.

It is to design and develop production tools and to support the small scale industries in the state. NTTC is the only Tool Room in NE Region that imparts a diploma course in Tooling Engineering since 2007, it was informed.
