Agriculture only alternative sector in Nagaland to employ youths – Kikheto Sema

Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): Expressing concern over the huge number of Naga youths back to the state due to the pandemic, the agriculture production commissioner and commissioner secretary, Kikheto Sema, said that in the absence of industries in Nagaland, agriculture is the only sector which can employ youths.

Stating that there is a huge scope in the field of agriculture, he said 'we have to go back to the fields and produce our own for self-sufficiency'.

According to an update, Sema was addressing senior agriculture officers' co-ordination meeting at the directorate of Agriculture conference hall in Kohima on Thursday.

Sema said it is going to be a huge challenge for the state post-pandemic; therefore, it is imperative to create awareness about the importance of agricultural sector and its management.

During this pandemic, he said agricultural activities cannot be stopped as the Agriculture department is one of the 'mother' departments of all the agri-allied sectors, which will improve income generation and production. It is the time to bring all the agri-allied departments together to achieved the goals and build the bridge in double production and farmers income generation, it stated.

Stating that agri-allied sectors have a huge responsibilities and challenges ahead, he encouraged the department to co-operate and co-ordinate together. He also urged the department to carry out their duties responsibly so that the living standard of rural people is improved and also enhance state economy.
