Agriculture department shares updates on FPOs, highlights sales at state conclave

DIMAPUR — K Remphamo Lotha, joint director of Agriculture department, reported that equity grants totalling 115 lakh were allocated to farmer producer organisations (FPOs) and farmer producer companies (FPCs), while direct benefit transfers to beneficiaries totalled INR 3,075 lakh to date.

He said this while sharing the status of FPCs at the state-level FPO conclave held on October 19 at Agri Expo under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North-Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) scheme.

Furthermore, Lotha mentioned that their goal for the scheme’s phase IV is to establish 15 FPCs covering an area of 7,500 hectares with a total of 7,800 farmer participants and to create 312 farmer interest groups (FIGs).

The targeted crops for phase IV include pineapple, orange, ginger, turmeric, perilla, millets, coffee, large cardamom, kiwi, king chilli, and ginger.

The target spans ten districts in Nagaland, with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and krishi vigyan kendras (KVKs) facilitating training and demonstrations alongside the efforts of field functionaries.

Lotha informed that 450 metric tonnes of fresh ginger were sold to buyers such as Kisan Network, Big Basket, Sain International, Better Life, and others; 25 metric tonnes of dry turmeric were sold to Riverbeki Pvt Ltd in Delhi; and 10 metric tonnes of dry ginger flakes were sold to Carmel Organic Pvt. Ltd. and Parvata Foods Pvt. Ltd.

Similarly, 180 metric tonnes of pineapple were sold to Gogain and Party, as well as Big Basket; 160 metric tonnes of dry large cardamom were sold to buyers such as N C Bhoj Raj and Agarwal and Co; 20 metric tonnes of kiwi were sold to Desai Agri Foods and local dealers; and 6 metric tonnes of Thanamir apple produce were sold in local markets.
