Agri-entrepreneurship training held for Peren FPOs, SHGs

DIMAPUR — As a part of 100 days action plan, KVK Peren, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie, organised an awareness programme on promoting agri-entrepreneurships for FPOs and SHGs on August 21 at KVK office and an exposure trip for the FPOs on August 22.

According to an update, the aim of the programme was to make the BODs and CEOs of the four FPOs aware about the importance of entrepreneurship development through agriculture and details regarding market linkage for FPOs, under FPO scheme.

Dr. L Babita Devi, CTO (Animal Science) and nodal officer, FPO, who chaired the programme, highlighted the details about entrepreneurship development and value addition of agricultural produce for marketing and income generation for the FPOs.

In the technical session, Amos Newme, district functional specialist, Livelihoods Non Farm, NSRLM-Peren, spoke on the scope and opportunities of agri-entrepreneuship.

He stressed on the ongoing ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) programme and giving importance to crops specific to the district such as king chilly, tree tomato, fermented mustard leave extract, locally known as ‘ziegicang.’

He also emphasised on the cultivation of maize which can also be used as pig feeds.

Samlamgwamlie Michui, food safety officer, Dimapur, in her presentation, outlined the importance of grading, branding and packaging of agri products. She spoke on how one should have a specific brand name with attractive tagline. She also stressed on the importance of specifying product details for any legal entity.

Heusuizailie, centre manager, Peren IDAN, also elaborated on the various government schemes that can be availed by the FPOs for their operational activities.

A plantation event as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign was also carried out at KVK premises.

The participants were taken for an exposure trip led by Dr.  L. Babita Devi, to Nagaland State Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Board (NSAPLMB) and mushroom production unit under State Horticulture Nursery, Chümoukedima.

Jacob Yanthan, MD and CEO of NSAPLMB, along with his team, presented their activities and also facilities available for training and processing of agricultural produce.

A hands-on training about mushroom production was demonstrated by Temjen and his team from State Horticulture Nursery. Altogether, 26 CEOs and BODs of four FPOs under KVK Peren, along with KVK officials attended the awareness programme and the exposure trip.
