Dimapur, Oct 28 (EMN): Agriculture Department, Longleng division, has organised a one-day training on organic farming under MOVCDNER programme on October 26 at EPRC Hall, Longleng town. The training was conducted for selected organic cluster villages under the district focusing mainly on organic value chain development and formation of farmer producers’ organisation.
The District Agriculture Officer, Dr. DK Chetri, in his keynote address, explained the importance of formation of organic farmer producers’ organisation and be registered under the Nagaland Cooperative Society Act.
D Robin, SDO (Civil) Longleng, in his exhortation to the participating farmers, said that Longleng district has a huge potential especially on crops like cardamom and ginger, while the chairman APMC Longleng, Angai Phom, spoke on the importance of the organic farming. Bonkam Phom, AO, and project in-charge gave the overview of the project in the district.
In the technical session, Chume Chang, ARCS, Longleng, explained in detail the procedure of registering the cooperative society and the benefits for the farmers.
The programme was chaired by SDAO Tamlu, Laklei Phom, and the vote of thanks was proposed by K Sohang, SDAO, Longleng. About 65 farmers and field staff attended the programme.
