Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 9 (EMN): The agitation called upon by the students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Takyelpat, in the outskirt of Imphal, turned violent on Thursday as they set on fire two old cars parked inside their campus. However no injury was reported during the incident that took place within the camps of the institution. The incident is said to have happened around 11 in the morning as per sources. On hearing the news, a police team rushed to the area and managed to pacify the students besides controlling the fire. The agitation was called by the students of ITI demanding adequate infrastructure of the institution including a well equipped laboratory and a full time principal. A sit in demonstration was also held within the ITI campus on Thursday. According to the agitating students, they were compelled to resort the protest as the state government had failed to fulfil their demands. “We’ve submitted memorandum highlighting our grievances to the higher authorities of the state including the Chief Minister. But no action has been taken up so far,” a student leader lamented. Meanwhile a team of police from Imphal West district continued to monitor the situation by deploying a team at the gate of the institution.
