Advisor Mhathung Yanthan inspects NH-2 construction

WOKHA — Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture and chairman of District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Wokha, along with MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtose, inspected the ongoing construction of National Highway (NH) 2 (previously known as NH-61) on Wednesday.

The brief inspection was held after the monthly DPDB meeting of the district held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall in Wokha.

During the inspection, Yanthan said that development in the district is aimed at addressing the needs of the community and called for contributions from every individual towards the successful implementation of every project.

He lauded the civil society organisations (CSOs) and joint action committee (JAC) for their roles, expressing that they have all fought a good fight for the welfare and interests of the public. He urged the CSOs and all stakeholders to extend cooperation to the construction firm to ensure the successful completion of the remaining works according to the project specifications.

He was also accompanied by members of the DPDB, officials from the National Highways Authority of India, Lotha Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, various Lotha frontal organisations, and JAC members.

Earlier, during the DPDB meeting chaired by Yanthan, various agenda items were discussed. These included the registration of the Ekhumrhong Rehab Centre at Yikhum village, the opening of a new Don Bosco School at Akuk village, updates on the activities of the Kaviyasri Project and the District Industries Centre, as well as a review of aspirational villages.

In his highlights of the rehab centre’s activities, Yikhum village pastor Zanbemo Kithan said that the facility is solely a church-founded project that aims to help substance-abusing individuals fully recover by involving them in a variety of skill-development activities and imparting Christian values.

Regarding the opening of the new Don Bosco School in Akuk village, the chairman requested that the sub-divisional education officer (SDEO) present the verification report during the next DPDB meeting for approval, according to a DIPR report.

S Mhayani Shitiri, the district executive officer, CBBD, emphasised the significance of farmer producer organisations (FPOs) and outlined their advantages during the meeting. She mentioned that the department has established FPOs in all seven existing blocks in the district and that the primary objective of these FPOs is to benefit common farmers and enhance the economic status of the district.

The district development manager of the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD), Poji, highlighted the developmental activities and beneficial schemes available for Wokha district during the meeting and the district resource person of the District Industrial Centre, Thungchano Jungio, highlighted the activities under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) schemes.
