DIMAPUR — Advisor of Prison, Printing and Stationery, Kropol Vitsu, has advocated unity among the people and striving together for peace and development.

He stated this during the 17th Bishu Mini Hornbill Festival 2024 of the Dimasa Kachari community on Saturday at High School Playground in Dhansiripar under Chümoukedima district. He reminded that festival signifies gratitude and not only merry-making. He stated that Nagaland has diverse tribes and each tribe has diverse culture.

He recalled how Kacharis were one of the earliest indigenous inhabitants of Northeast India and appreciated them for maintaining their cultural traditions. He also spoke on how the forefathers handed down the traditions through word of mouth (oral tradition). He added that today, there are means to document and preserve the traditions and culture, which signifies one’s identity.

Sharing about festivals in the state, Vitsu stated that with the Hornbill Festival, the importance of culture and traditional practices and its importance to preserve have taken root. He added that the Hornbill Festival has brought Nagaland to the world map, making it known in the wider India in contradiction to the time when most Indians had no idea of Nagaland and was assumed to be a foreign country.

Savi Liegiese, social worker and the guest of honour of the day, appreciated the people for maintaining the traditions of their forefathers. Stating that Kacharis have huge population, he encouraged them to continue promoting their culture and identity.

It may be mentioned that Bishu festival was recognised by the state government in the year 2007.

Dhansiripar cultural troupe and Gorkha cultural troupe entertained the crowd with their cultural performances.
