MOKOKCHUNG — Underlining the importance of good road connectivity to accelerate development, the advisor of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum, has assured to provide black topped roads in Langpangkong range under Mokokchung district within two years.

Ozukum made this assurance during the 44th general conference of Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang (LTM) held in Yaongyimti village on Tuesday. Stressing on the importance of economic activities, he stated that Langpangkong range is emerging as a hub for micro-small scale industries and added that the people of the range are waiting for revival of Tuli railway station.

In this connection, he appealed to the people of Langpangkong range not to dilute history for their own self-interest but foster unity among the people and work for uplift of the range during this initial stage of economic growth. He also suggested exploiting the natural resources for their economic uplift.

The advisor suggested the house to deliberate on education policy for an equitable and inclusive education system.

Ozukum has termed Langpangkong range ‘unique,’ as the three communities namely the Ao, Chang and Phom co-exist in unity. In this connection, he called upon the different communities to uphold unity as practiced by their forefathers.

Also speaking at the event, the advisor of Fishery and Aquatic Resources, A Pangjung, dwelled on the development and infrastructure activities initiated in the range. He has sought cooperation and unity among the people to achieve the developmental goals.

The theme speaker and chief information commissioner, I Meyionen Jamir, urged LTM to embark on a goodwill mission and to realise the construction of the Dikhu Hydro Electric Project, which will regenerate 186 MW compared with Doyang 75 MW.

The project touches the land of Ao, Konyak and Phom. However, two neighbouring villages have declined to be a part of the project, which has delayed in the implementation work.

Jamir urged LKM members to embark on mission to make them understand potential and benefit of the project and component related to rehabilitations and compensation.

Dwelling on the topic “Sumedem (Equal footing),” he lamented the tussle for power among the leaders in Naga society that has challenged and weakened the essence of equality. In this connection, he urged the LTM members to be wary of such action and nominate or elect leaders accordingly for the benefit of the society.

He further stated that it should be the responsibility of every individual to strengthen the pillar of unity in the society.

Earlier, the advisor of Water Resources unveiled the conference monolith in the presence Pangjung and Meyionen Jamir.
