The Adivasi People’s Liberation Army (APLA), an armed organisation, which was founded by the leaders of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), will lay down arms ahead of the Republic Day celebration.

One of the leaders of APLA, Samuel Munda, speaking to media on Monday, said ‘the APLA was formed in 2004 to work for the cause of tea tribe communities living in Assam. The APLA has been demanding the economic uplift of tea-tribes communities, the opening of schools for Adivasi children, granting of ST status, issue of land pattas and to increase the rate of daily wages’.

Munda said in 2022, nine APLA cadres surrendered to Karbi Anglong police. The surrendered cadres have talked with Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma; Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Roghang and Executive Member (EM), KAAC, Surjya Rongphar for surrendering of other APLA cadres before the Republic Day celebration.

More than 40 cadres including its chairman and secretary will surrender ahead of the Republic Day celebration, Munda said.
