ADC of Imphal West prohibits movement of pigs
IMPHAL — Following detection of the contagious African Swine Fever (ASF), a pig research project under Central Agricultural University (CAU) at Eroisemba in Manipur’s Imphal West district has been declared as the epicentre of the ASF.
“Imphal West district is required to be declared as a controlled area for ASF with immediate effect to effectively prevent, control and eradicate the scheduled disease,” said a notification issued by the additional deputy commissioner, Dr. N Johnson Meetei, on Friday.
As per the provisions of prevention and control of infectious and contagious disease in animals Act 2009, the pig farm at CAU, Imphal West, has been categorised as epicenter and all the area within 1 km radius from pig farm has been declared as infected zone and area within 10 km radius has been declared as surveillance zone.
As preventive measures, the ADC has restricted movement and sale of pork and feed within the infected zone including materials that could have contacted the infected or suspected to be infected animals.
“Culling of all infected animals shall be done with proper information to the officers of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department and by following proper protocols,” the notification said adding, “All equipment/ tools as well as vehicles used in the farms that are having pigs either infected or suspected to be infected shall be restricted from movement without following proper protocols.”
Meanwhile, the director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Dr. Ng Ibotombi, informed that necessary formalities for control and containment are also being taken up.
