Wokha, Feb. 9 (EMN): The All Commercial Vehicles’ Association of Wokha (ACVA) has denounced what it stated was damage caused to vehicles by political workers in the name of the forthcoming Nagaland assembly election in the district. The statement formed part of an emergency meeting that was conducted in the association’s office on Feb. 9, updates from the group stated on Fri.
The ACVA’s media cell stated that violence would not bring any change to the society. It has appealed to the people to refrain from such activities.
The ACVA informed commercial vehicles in the district to avoid putting up posters and flags of any political party to maintain peace. It requested also political parties and their supporters to ensure the safety of commercial vehicles besides refraining from antisocial activities such as damaging commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles are meant for the public’s convenience, the statement said.
ANTA unit appeals
The All Nagaland Taxi Association of Wokha (ANTA) has expressed pain at the escalating pre-poll violence in the district. The unit has appealed to the political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from indulging in violent activities.
The unit reminded the public that taxi—being commercial vehicles—are to carry travellers to their destinations for a fee.
The unit’s president, Hayithung Odyuo, and General Secretary Lipenthung Ovung urged the public to consider the commercial vehicles during the election ‘instead of acting senselessly.’
