Activision unveils first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 trailer
Ladies and gentlemen, Task Force 141 is officially back!
Developer Infinity Ward is back with the sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with release of the first trailer for Modern Warfare 2 on Wednesday.
Prior to Wednesday’s release, Publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward had been teasing us with a bunch of short trailers featuring TimTheTatMan, Steve Aoki, Pete Davidson and Trae Young.
The curtains have now been lifted and the world has been gifted with the first trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 along with a global release date set for October 28.
At the start of the trailer, we get to look at an upside down point-of-view of a person dangling on a rope from a helicopter. Seconds later, bullets are flying everywhere and a vehicle is on flames. The person then proceeds to cut the rope and jumps on to the roof of a transport truck. In the trailer, Task Force 141 is called to hunt down a person of interest, Hasan, after intel reports that the target is not in Iran. The trailer gives us a brief look at the action sequences across different environments as Task Force 141 executes dangerous missions all over the world.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 brings back fan-favourite members like Captain John Price, Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley and Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick donning the classic Task Force 141 badge. Task Force 141 will also get a new member, Colonel Alejandro Vargas, “an incorruptible Tier 1 Operator and member of the Mexican Special Forces.”
According to a blog post on the official Call of Duty website, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is going to be “the most advanced Call of Duty in history, with a truly immersive experience with stunningly realistic sound, lighting, and graphics.”
The game is expected to have a new advanced AI system that will result in more dynamic firefights and combat action. The company claims that the new AI system makes enemies smarter than ever before capable of “using combat and cover manoeuvring techniques that would be second nature to a Tier 1 Operator.” Take this with a grain of salt for now, we will definitely test this out once we get our hands on it.
Besides promising an “explosive” campaign mode, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will also feature a multiplayer experience featuring new maps and new modes.
The game is set for an October 28 release worldwide for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Battle.net, and Steam. Activision also announced that Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is scheduled for a release later this year.
