Act now to promote northeast, says Bhaichung Bhutia
Mumbai, Feb. 1 (IANS): Bhaichung Bhutia, retired Indian footballer who hails from Sikkim, says people should stop saying that it is “high time” to focus on the northeast as for him now is the time to act.
“There has always been talk. Everybody keeps on saying it’s high time. I think action has to be followed now,” Bhutia told IANS on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Spring-Summer 2018.
Bhutia walked the ramp for the opening show which saw creations by some talented designers from the northeast.
He said: “It’s a good start from Lakme. There is a huge fashion market in northeast and hopefully good things will start coming in. Northeast is a very fashionable region and hopefully it will be tapped in a better way.”
Designers from six of the eight northeast states — Manipur, Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh — showcased their collection at the show, curated by IMG Reliance.
The designers who showcased were Daniel Syiem, Kuzu, Jenjum Gadi x Exotic Echo Society, Khumantem, Tilla by Aratrik and Sonam Dubal.
