DIMAPUR — Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Chekrovolü Swüro has been elected as the President of the Nagaland Archery Association, according to an update from the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) on Friday.
Congratulating the ace archer, the NOA stated that ‘her election as the first woman president of Nagaland Archery Association is a moment of pride and progress not just for archery but also a reflection of the growing role of women in sports leadership’.
A name that resonates deeply within India’s sporting circles, Chekrovolü is not only one of Nagaland’s most accomplished athlete but also a trailblazer for Indian archery, having won laurels for the country, including the World Championships and the Asian Games, according to the update.
She was a consistent member of the Indian National Archery team, including the one that won bronze at the Archery World Cup, silver at the Archery World Championships in Italy, Gold at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai and represented the country at the London 2012 Olympic Games, becoming the second Naga athlete to play at the Olympics.

She has been honoured with the Arjuna Award, one of the India’s highest sporting honours; and the Dr. T. Ao Award, Nagaland’s highest sports honour, in recognition of her excellence and contribution to Indian archery.
On taking up the latest responsibility, the NOA expressed confidence that ‘her leadership will open new avenues for young archers and further reinforce Nagaland’s position on the national sporting map’.
“As someone who has experienced the journey of an elite athlete first-hand, her insights and experience will be invaluable in shaping the future of the sport,” stated NOA.
“We look forward to working together to support the growth of archery and to strengthen the wider sporting ecosystem of the state. We wish her every success as she begins this new and inspiring chapter in her sporting journey,” it added.
