Dimapur, November 28 : Calling the recent judgement of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench on the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) case as perhaps a significant landmark in the fight against corruption, the ACAUT Nagaland lauded the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) for filing a Public interest Litigation (PIL) against the memorandum of the State Government that had virtually castrated the powers of the SVC and reduced it to a mere facade for the State Government, a toothless body. This judgement in favour of the PIL by NTC, that is, restoring the legal powers and jurisdiction of the SVC, including suo moto powers, is in essence a victory for the people of Nagaland in the fight against corrupt establishments, Media cell, ACAUT said in a release on Monday. The ACAUT said the HC direction that the SVC should re-open all investigations affected prior to June 8, 2016, should make the government realise that the Khushi-Khushi days are long gone.
The ACAUT expressed sincere thanks to the NTC for their selfless service, their only motive being the betterment of Nagas and for having the vision to see that it is only with accountability that justice can be served. “Now that the shackles have been removed, it now remains to be seen whether the SVC can bring corruption cases pending before it to conclusion,” it stated.
