ACAUT Nagaland has condemned in strongest term the intimidation and attempt on the life of Abe Mero, ACAUT Nagaland member, allegedly by NSCN-K members in the heart of Kohima town, on Wednesday.
According to a press release, two NSCN –K members demanded ‘non-local tax’ of Rs. 300 each from the two occupants of a truck unloading building materials of Ms Abe Mero at Jail Colony, Kohima. When the ACAUT member objected, the two cadres brandished their weapons and chased her around her residence and fired shots. “After the chase, the criminals vented their anger upon two colony residents and a dog the two innocent residents being badly beaten up. Not content, again Ms. Abe was chased around her house for the second time. No sane person can digest these criminal acts upon an innocent women and an ACAUT member,” the release stated.
However, one of the cadres was identified by Ms Mero from police mug shots and the Kohima police have identified him as the brother of NSCN-K Kohima town commander.
ACAUT Nagaland has demanded that the NSCN-K Kohima town commander hand over his brother to the police immediately. “The town commander is morally and legally bound to do so since his brother demanded illegal tax in the name of the organisation,” the release stated while also demanding public apology to the victims from NSCN-K leadership.
In the event of failing to tender apology by the NSCN-K leadership ‘backed by termination order along with newspaper clipping’, ACAUT Nagaland warned that it would take up the matter with the Naga people in Kohima.
