DIMAPUR — Abu Metha, Associate Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), has been nominated as a delegate for the Paris Olympics 2024.
In a letter, AFI Secretary Ravinder Chaudhry, said that Metha’s expertise and experience will significantly contribute to the success of the Indian delegation.
According to an update from the DIPR, Metha, who also serves as the Working President of the North East Olympic Association, has a proven track record in sports administration. He previously led the Indian contingent at the World Under-22 Athletics Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, and spearheaded the hosting of the South Asian Cross-Country Championships in Kohima, Nagaland.
He is also the Convenor of the National Mountain Running Committee under the AFI and World Athletics, it said, adding that his leadership was instrumental in Nagaland’s successful hosting of the North East Olympic Games, where the state secured the second position in the overall medal tally, it said.
Congratulating Metha on his nomination, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that his experience will greatly benefit games and sports in India, especially Nagaland.
