Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): Aboi Area Forum (AAF), which comprised of Konyak Union Aboi unit, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong Aboi unit, Aboi Area Students’ Union and Aboi Town Students’ Union, strongly opposed the revocation of pharmacy licence cancellation order against one for wrong diagnosis.

A forum’s statement through its media cell stated that one July 1, a patient and family visited ‘Medicare Pharma’ in Aboi town run by one Chingmei Phom following which the health condition of the patient deteriorated after consuming medicines prescribed by him. It added that the patient was taken to the District Hospital Mon on July 5, wherein the doctor who attended to the patient informed the family members that he was wrongly diagnosed.

The doctors in the District Hospital also mentioned that the patient was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state and asked to immediately stop all medication prescribed by Chingmei as it could cause brain dead or even cost the life of the patient.

Subsequently on July 7, the NGOs wrote a joint letter to additional deputy commissioner of Aboi for verification of the illegal medicine seller/ practitioner in Aboi town. It informed that the matter was also forwarded to Directorate of Health and Family Welfare through the chief medical officer of Mon in which the department verified his documents and issued a cancellation order of his drug license on July 27.

To the dismay of the public, the department issued a revocation order on August 24 to run the pharmacy again without proper consultation with NGOs and medical establishment of Mon district.

It, therefore, questioned the department for going against the wishes and consent of the public even after knowing that he had violated the provision of Act and Rules of Drug and Cosmetic 1940 and 1945 and endangering human lives. It also demanded to know of the person behind revocation of the cancelation order and to immediately initiate action before any unwanted situation arises.

It urged the department to look into needs of the community health centre (CHC) in Aboi by appointing doctors, nurses and other staff, which is the only healthcare centre after District Hospital in the district.

It further affirmed not to allow any individual or department to endanger the lives of the citizens within its jurisdiction.
