Abide in Christ as Branches to the Vine

John15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Believers who abide in Christ as branches to the trunk are those whose understandings are in God, whose souls are in him, whose confidence is in him, and whose fortress is in him. By cleaving to Christ they derive life, grace, strength, support, and spiritual nourishment from him.

Separated from Christ, we can do nothing at all. God can do without man, but man cannot do without God. We cannot do any good without him. It is impossible for a branch to live, thrive, and bring forth fruit, while cut off from that tree from which it not only derives its juices. Its very existence depends on the vine.

To be united to Christ is a union in which our lives are regulated by the teachings of Christ. To profit from this union we must pray. Every heavenly blessing shall be given to those who continue in this union, with a loving, obedient, praying spirit.

To be separated from the vine is to be without Christ. Without Christ, his Spirit, grace, strength, and presence they could bring forth no fruit of the Spirit.

John15:8 “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

It is the honour of the cultivator to have good, strong, vigorous vines, plentifully laden with fruit: so it is the honor of God to have strong, vigorous, holy children, entirely freed from sin, and perfectly filled with his love.

Those who abide in Christ are strong and vigorous vines. They are the disciples of Christ who are plentifully laden with fruit and God the Father is glorified.
