Abhilasha Kumari is new chief justice of Manipur HC

Our Correspondent Imphal, Feb. 9 (EMN): The oath for office for newly-appointed Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Abhilasha Kumari was administered by Governor Dr Najma Heptulla on Fri. The oath taking ceremony was held in the banquet hall of the Raj Bhavan in Imphal. Chief Minister N Biren Singh, assembly Speaker Y Khemchand, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, opposition leader O Ibobi Singh; newly elected Deputy Speaker K Robindro; and legislators P Saratchandra, and T Robindro; acting Chief Justice N Kotishwar; Manipur state Chief Secretary RR Rashmi; Director General of Manipur Police LK Khaute and legal luminaries and government officials attended the event. Justice Abhilasha Kumari, who was serving as a judge of Gujarat High Court and later chief justice of Tripura High Court, is the third full-time chief justice of Manipur High Court. Kumari was enrolled as an advocate in 1984. The newly-appointed chief justice served as additional central government standing counsel from 1995 to 2002; legal adviser and Standing Counsel for Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Himachal Pradesh University, H.P. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation and H.P. State Electricity Board. Also, she served as additional advocate-general of Himachal Pradesh after the Congress government came to power in March 2003. She is the daughter of former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Raja Virbhadra Singh.
