Mokokchung, April 4 (EMN): To provide detox therapy and counselling to alcoholic and drugs addicts, Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) social concern committee conducted a three-day training programme at the Mission Center, Impur from April 2 to 4th.
The resource person for the programme are Imlisungkum Jamir, an alcoholic alumnus; Moatemsu Jamir, a freelance addiction counsellor and Kilangwati Imsong, residential counsellor from Grace Rehabilitation Home, Tuli.
The three-day training clinic saw the participation of 70 delegates from 37 churches including pastors, associate pastors (Women), education directors, deacons and social concern committee member from the local churches.
During an interaction, resource persons and organisers said the ABAM resolved a resolution on 2011 to eradicated alcoholism and drugs addiction by 2021. As part of the resolution, they said the social concern committee under the wing of ABAM has been initiating various activities.
They asserted that ‘the training was very successful as they could now see the various roots of addictions from a boarder spectrum and also an eye opener for the churches to deal with addictions.’
In this regard, they appealed ‘the churches to come down the pulpit ministry and engaged with the addicts and slashed down this social menace from the society.
The resource persons opined that the church has a bigger role to play as the facilitator in implementing active detox camps and medical facilities to cut down the demand chain of alcohol in the state.
