KOHIMA — The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Monday that it intends to accelerate its expansion in the Northeastern states and has decided to run in the upcoming Mizoram Legislative Assembly election scheduled for November 7.

Rajesh Sharma, AAP Northeast states in-charge, announced this during a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi attended by Asu Keyho, AAP Nagaland state convener, and Abuzam Umapada Luwang, assistant in-charge of AAP Tripura.

He said that the number of seats on which the AAP will run in Mizoram will be announced soon. Concerning the expansion of the AAP in the Northeastern states, he noted that the NE coordination committee and Northeast cell will be formed for the people of the region.

Stating that the NE states have ‘severe issues’, such as corruption, nepotism, and poor living conditions, he alleged that the chief ministers in these states often allocate all government contracts to their family and friends.

“The chief ministers in NE states often treat the state as their family estate, and government contracts are typically awarded to their family members and friends,” he said.

He claimed that the BJP has started divisive politics by dividing communities and stoking tensions, including conflicts like the Kuki-Meitei dispute, which has left the people of the region quite distressed because they never support this kind of politics.

“That is why the AAP is determined to expand its organisation with full force in the Northeastern states,” Sharma said.

He mentioned that the decision to contest elections in the Northeast states was made during a meeting on Sunday under the chairmanship of AAP’s national convener, Arvind Kejriwal.
