Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): The prestigious Dr. BR Ambedkar National Award has been conferred to I Chubatangit Jamir from Nagaland in recognition of his service to the less privileged. The award was given at a programme held at Rajendra Bhavan, New Delhi on July 11.

“Honouring this prestigious award to Shri I.Chubatangit Jamir, in recognition for his remarkable contribution to social and other literary activities related to the poor people and Dalit upliftment of the downtrodden and backward people of India. We hope to work together with him to uplift downtrodden and disadvantage Group of India in the days to come,” read the press release sent by Nabin CH Kalita, President of DR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, N.E. Region, Assam.

The programme was organised under the Chairmanship of Dr. N.S.Khoba, National President, BJRKSSA – India. Ramdas Athawale, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, was the Chief Guest and former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar was the main speaker of the event.

The Dr. B.R.Ambedkar National Award for social understanding and uplift of weaker sections is a national award presented by the government of India in honour of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the country’s first Law Minister, father of the Indian constitution and champion of human rights.
