A flood of Dope: Massive ganja, IMLF loads caught

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he week was a heavy payoff for enforcement personnel and security forces in Kohima when they landed massive quantities of ganja and Indian made foreign liquor during separate occasions.
Personnel of the Assam Rifles have confiscated assorted liquor worth more than 29 lakhs from a truck in Kohima. A person has been arrested in this regard.
Also, enforcement personnel of Kohima district on Tuesday made one of the biggest contraband catches in the recent times – 660 kgs of ganja from a truck travelling to Assam. Two persons have been arrested in connection to the case.
Personnel of the District Executive Force of Kohima manning Phesama check-gate intercepted a truck (PB10CJ/0383) on February 24, 2015 at around 8:00am. The enforcement personnel found in the vehicle 660 kilograms of contraband ganja worth approximately 6.6 lakhs, police said on Tuesday.The contraband ganja was detected concealed in three secret compartments of the truck and was neatly wrapped in 66 packages each weighing 10 kilograms, police said. The consignment was reportedly loaded from Imphal and was on its way to be delivered in Guwahati in Assam.
The two persons have been identified as one Pawan Kumar, 35 years, of Simlapuri village in Ludhiana of Punjab and a Khukon Shaha, 48 years, of Howrah Domjur in Howrah of West Bengal. They have been arrested booked.
Likewise, personnel of the 19th Assam Rifles on February 20 intercepted a truck ((NL 07A – 5997) that was found to be carrying more than 29 lakhs worth of assorted liquor. The Assam Rifles intercepted the vehicle at High School junction in Kohima town.
The security forces apprehended Sunil Kumar Sah, age 23 years, of Bhakand village in Bihar. The force found 1, 155 cases of various varieties of liquor, police informed on Tuesday.
The cost of the recovered liquor is being estimated at approximately Rs. 29,87,160, police authorities informed.
The seized IMFL and the accused were handed over to the Superintendent of Excise and Prohibition of Kohima for further investigation.
