Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN):
A book titled ‘A brief survey of Naga history,’ written by a nonagenarian and former minister of Nagaland, Ihezhe Zhimomi (91) and published by Heritage Publishing House, was released on Saturday at the residence of the author in Thahekhu village.

Speaking at the book launch programme, the author disclosed that he was prompted to write a book on Naga history as all the books on Nagas were written by non-Nagas. While admitting that he was not a scholar, Zhimomi stated that he had studied the history of ancient, medieval and modern periods during his college life.

Stating that Nagas had fought the Ahoms for six centuries and half (1228-1838), Zhimomi stated that the history was written by Ahoms but not by Nagas. The author urged the present Nagas scholars to read the book and produce more volumes relating to the Naga history.

The book ‘A brief survey of Naga history’ focuses on Naga history with special reference to Ahom-Naga war (1228 to 1838), Anglo-Naga wars (1832 to 1947) and the conflict in India (1947 to this day). The various chapters of the book charted the courses of Naga history to the present day.

Also speaking at the event, publisher of the book, Dr. Lanusangla Tzudir, described the important role of writers as they are the ‘story keeper and story teller’ in their own ways. She added that the book ‘A brief survey of Naga history’ was not a serious academic work but it good reference to look back on the course of Naga history.
