DIMAPUR — The GPRN/NNC (Apex Body), led by S S Pungokhu Naga and General Secretary Francis Kikon, expressed concern over the alleged exploitation of Nagaland youths employed in various private establishments in the state and called for a radical change in the nature of pay and workplace conditions.

In a press statement, it stated that with over 70,000 educated unemployed youths, the situation of underpayment or exploitation will lead to unprecedented social problems among frustrated youths.

It alleged sexual exploitation of females in the private sector and that educated youths are indulging in illegal activities. It added that the state government, with its lack of vision, will not be able to address the problem.

Claiming that over 80 per cent of business establishments and other economic activities are in the hands of non-Nagas, it stated that the chances of exploitation will tend to increase while the rate of employment will decrease.

It stated that this total dominance of the economy by non-Nagas should be checked.

Expressing respect, support, and gratitude to the various NPGs in the struggle for sovereign rights, it pointed out that, along the path of self-determination, the various NPGs should work for the welfare and economy of educated unemployed youths in the state.

“Naga sovereign birthright would be meaningless when its people live in poverty with a shattered economy,” it stated, adding that the elites and the privileged in society should reserve business establishments for educated unemployed youths.
