DDMA conducts tabletop exercise across Nagaland

DIMAPUR — In view of the statewide mock drill on earthquake disaster to be held on October 24, District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA), in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), have organised a tabletop exercise (TTEx) in their respective districts on Tuesday.

The exercise was aimed at assessing the preparedness and coordination among various stakeholders in the event of an earthquake.

Kohima: The table top exercise in Kohima was held at the Capital Convention Centre with the advisor of New and Renewal Energy and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Z Nyusietho Nyuthe.

Speaking at the meeting, Nyuthe stated that the exercise would foster stronger collaboration and communication between various stakeholders including government gepartments, civil societies and communities.

The Home commissioner and CEO of NSDMA, Vyasan, has encouraged various stakeholders including government departments, civil societies and communities to come together as a team in responding to disaster.

Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain, member of NDMA and lead consultant (ME & IRS), and Maj. Gen. (retired) Sudhir Bahl, also took part in the meeting.

Dimapur: The tabletop exercise in Dimapur was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office, which was chaired by the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and incident commander of DDMA, Dimapur, Zakabo V Rotokha.

Speaking at the meeting, Rotokha encouraged the stakeholders to maintain close contact with the DDMA for any clarifications or queries. He stressed the importance of readiness and cooperation in mitigating disaster impacts.

The SDO (Civil) and deputy incident commander of DDMA, Dimapur, Yanthungbemo Kikon, provided an overview of the finalised incident sites, the appointment of observers and the incident response teams (IRT) that would be engaged during the exercise.

The district project associate (DPA) of DDMA, Dimapur, Thejavizo Kehie, made a powerpoint presentation outlining the earthquake disaster scenario and NEPEx.

The mock drill would be conducted Dimapur Government College, Pantaloons Shopping Mall, GHSS Lingrijan School, Forest residential area, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited, Dimapur depot, Primary Health Centre (PHC) Duncan and DC Office, Dimapur.

Longleng: The table top exercise in Longleng was held at the DC conference hall under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner of Longleng, W Manpai Phom.

The DC has urged all the departments, wards and civil societies to take the exercise seriously and get involved positively during the exercise.

The DPA of DDMA Longleng, Vekuzo Lohe, urged all officials to actively participate during the mock exercise in order to equip themselves when actual disaster strikes.

He spoke on the structure of the incident respond system (IRS) comprising responsible officer, incident commanders, operation section, planning section and logistic section and various units.

He informed that four incident locations have been identified for the mock drill.

Peren: The table top exercise was held at Peren town hall under the chairmanship of SDO (C) Hq, Sentilong Ozukum.

Speaking at the programme, the deputy commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, informed that the table top exercise was a prelude to the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) to sensitise the stakeholders. He added that the mega mock exercise on earthquake disaster on October 24 was aimed at generating greater awareness among the communities and different agencies on how to establish mechanism for effective response to any disaster.

Meru also appealed the head of offices and line departments to give importance on the mock exercise and also carry out their assigned tasks responsibly.

The DC further informed that emergency operation centre (EOC) would be set up at Town Hall, Peren, while staging area at Peren town local ground.

Wokha: The table top exercise in Wokha was held under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, at his office’s conference hall.

The DC, who is also the chairman of DDMA Wokha, appealed to all the Wokha DDMA members to actively participate for the success of the exercise.

The district project associate of DDMA, Wokha, Mercy Kithan, made a powerpoint presentation about the tentative sequence of the activities for the mock exercise.

Tseminyu: The table top exercise in Tseminyu was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Tseminyu town.

The additional deputy commissioner of Tseminyu, Kikumsangla Jamir, briefed on the mock drill scenario.

Mokokchung: The table top exercise in Mokokchung was held at the conference hall of the ADC Planning.

During the programme, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, gave an introduction to NEPEx 2024 mega mock exercise, while a powerpoint presentation on incident response system (IRS) was presented by the assistant commissioner, Shreyansee Jain.

The additional deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe, spoke on mock drill scenario and resource mobilization and the Nagaland Police Telecom Organisation (NPTO) conducted a demonstration on operation of wireless set to the members.

Chümoukedima: The table top exercise in Chümoukedima was held at the conference hall of the DC’s office in Chümoukedima town.

The DC and chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chümoukedima, Polan John, urged the departments to take responsibility on the role assigned to them make the mock drill a success.

Highlights of the meeting included introduction on the statewide mega mock exercise, followed by a detailed briefing on the mock drill scenario, observer and self-assessment formats and the site-in-charge format.

Noklak: The table top exercise in Noklak was held at the conference hall of the DC’s office, wherein the SDO (Civil) and CEO of Noklak, Vikhoto Richa, gave an introduction to NEPEx statewide mega mock exercise and incident response system (IRS). He also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders involved in managing disaster as per the incident response system flowchart.

The DPA of DDMA Noklak, Tanghiu, has briefed on observer, self-assessment format and site in-charge during the meeting.

Tuensang: The table top exercise-cum-preparatory meeting in Tuensang was held at the conference hall of the DC’s office.

During the meeting, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, highlighted the role and responsible of various departments participating at the mock drill exercise. She called upon all the concerned officers to actively participate and coordinate with one another for the smooth conduct of the mock drill exercise.

Zunheboto: The table top exercise in Mon was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office.

Speaking at the meeting, the deputy commissioner and chairman of DDMA, Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, appealed to all line departments to participate with sincerity.

The DC informed that a siren would be sounded in difference locations at 9 am on October 24. He, therefore, appealed to the citizens of Zunheboto town and neighbouring villages not to panic.

Mon: The table top exercise in Mon was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office, wherein the latter briefed the role and functions of each department and urged them to be responsible in their assigned duties.

The ADC of Mon headquarters read out the tentative sequence of activity for the mock drill on October 24.

Niuland: A table top exercise in Niuland was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office.

Addressing the members, the deputy commissioner of Niuland, S Sara Jamir, , requested all the concerned departments to actively participate for the successful conduct of the mock drill exercise.

S Athsangla, ADC of Niuland, briefed on the mock drill scenario and apprised that the exercise would take place at three sites including at public ground and Niuland town as the main staging area.

The table top exercise was attended by various departments and stakeholders in Niuland district.
