Association of Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland snubs district committee under RIIN
DIMAPUR — The Association of Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland (AIMTN) has decided not to participate in any of the District Level Coordination Committee for IIC/PRC under the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) exercise, alleging step-motherly treatment by Nagaland government.
The AIMTN represents Kuki, Kachari, Garo, and Mikir (Karbi). In a press release issued on Wednesday, the association took exception to the formation of District Level Coordination Committee for IIC/PRC under RIIN with the four Indigenous minority tribes.
“The AIMTN is appalled at the lackadaisical attitude of the government of Nagaland towards the four Indigenous minority tribes of Nagaland. Even after submitting a representation to the chief secretary on September 24, 204 and subsequent press release on September 29, 2024, there has been no response till date. The silence of the government on the representation is taken as a step-motherly treatment towards the four Indigenous tribes of Nagaland.
“Therefore, the four Indigenous minority tribes have decided not to participate in any of the District Level Coordination Committee for IIC/PRC until the government of Nagaland gives an acceptable reply to the representation submitted to the chief secretary on the 24th September, 2024 on the matter,” it stated.
