All Nagaland Taxi Association demands action following assault on driver

DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) has issued a strong condemnation following the alleged assault of a taxi driver travelling through Shamator district on September 26.

In a press release issued on Monday, the ANTA Hq. Kohima said that the incident occurred between Yokor and Saddle villages as the driver, identified as C Kiuthrun, was transporting passengers to Tuensang for a medical emergency.

According to the association, Kiuthrun’s vehicle was stopped by unidentified individuals who threatened him with a firearm. The assailants reportedly questioned his presence on the route, citing unspecified tensions in the area.

Despite the driver’s explanation that he was unaware of any tensions and was transporting passengers for urgent medical care, the assailants attempted to assault him. Passengers in the taxi intervened, preventing further harm to the driver, it said.

The association emphasised that such behaviour is unacceptable and violates fundamental human rights.

“Condemning this act of crime towards our fellow driver, the association requests the law enforcing agencies to take immediate and decisive actions towards the unknown miscreants and to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future,” the ANTA said, stating that inaction would only encourage further injustice.
